In&nbsp;Vitrumotus, a world where death is just a delay and pain stretches on like a second skin, one name echoes through the dark: Kaldhor. He isn’t just a boss—he’s the echo of a broken soul, forged into steel, and wrapped in mystery.

Originally, he was meant to be the final boss of the first biome—big, heavy, and wielding a two-handed weapon. He even had pets at one point. Not summons—actual pets. But that version didn’t last. Like most things in development, it shifted. The pets were cut. The design tightened. Kaldhor emerged from the concept fog as a massive, armored figure. Brutal. Still. And entirely alone.

Everyone touched Kaldhor. Animation, lore, gameplay, design—each team member brought something different. That’s probably why he feels more than just intimidating. He feels&nbsp;alive. He’s Emberville’s Frankenstein, stitched together from creative fragments, disagreements, and breakthroughs.

In the end, what started as a loose set of ideas became something real. Not just because of code or art—but because of trust. Because of collaboration. Pixel by pixel, frame by frame, conversation by conversation. Kaldhor isn’t just a boss you fight. He’s a symbol of what the team built together.

And that, maybe more than anything, is the real story.

While the visual side was coming to life, Ivan was thinking in terms of game feel and combat rhythm. He worked closely with Gabriel and Kevin to make sure Kaldhor’s movements matched his menace. They didn’t just think about attacks—they thought about emotion: fear, tension, surprise.

And sometimes, inspiration came from life. The dash? Borrowed from ducks chasing a pigeon in the park. The ground slam? That was a dog leaping and landing hard. Turns out, boss mechanics are everywhere if you’re paying attention.

Camilo (Our Pixel Artist) &nbsp;started from almost nothing—just vague ideas and early visual stabs. At one point, they were trying to figure out how to give a legless design... well, legs. He mocked up various boots, moved bits around until something clicked, and built from there. Slowly, the static form became something that looked like it could walk, maybe even fight.

Then came Alex. With Steven’s early animation sketches and Camilo’s pixel concepts in hand, he pushed forward—layer by layer. Shoulder, head, axe. Idle animations came together quickly, but the more complex sequences, like attack combos, took days. Every piece moved independently, but once combined with effects and polish, Kaldhor didn’t just move—he&nbsp;loomed. You could feel the weight.

Tired and confused, you awake engulfed in darkness, in a prison that seems to have no end. Your memories are clouded, but your desire for freedom allows you to endure.

But you are not alone. Accompanied by a strange, luminous entity that calls itself your Memento, you carve your way out through might and magic, eager to meet the light of the sun.

Yet, as despair slowly consumes your spirit, a ray of hope shines forward. Imprisoned like countless others, the denizens of a once thriving town, now ravaged by vicious forces, await your aid.

As you rescue them from various, terrible fates, they will lend their skills and help you rebuild their homes. You will learn their trades, secrets, and dreams, assisting them in their many quests, and perhaps, in time, become a legend in the annals of their land: Emberville.

Small update this week, big lore, so let’s jump right in.

Everybody, meet&nbsp;Tolcan — golden‑maned beastman, tracker, menace to anything that goes bump in the Vitramotus.

Our pixel art team just finished the&nbsp;interior of his house, so while you’re admiring those cozy corners and hunter’s trinkets, here’s the lore drop:

TL;DR: he’s your go‑to guide for surviving your next run.

If you’ve somehow been living under a rock (Patrick Starr, is that you?), Cohh is showcasing a mini Emberville update on Tuesday the 16th. We can’t say what he’s showing (psst… secrets), but you’re going to want to be there. JK HERE IT IS.

Short and sweet today so we don’t steal Cohh’s thunder. Behind the scenes is humming, the house is finished, and Tolcan’s ready to put your notebook to work.

Devlog Quickfire 6!

When I say it’s time for Devlog Quickfire, I’m not screwing around—let’s jump right in!

Our art team’s on a tear and just wrapped an NPC house concept for a character named&nbsp;Orallis—and oh boy, she comes with baggage (the juicy, worldbuilding kind). As a child, she was isolated by haunting divinations; as an adult, she wandered from village to village helping folks find water, treasure, even lost kids—then kept moving when suspicion kicked in. One day she stumbled on the fire-ruined bones of a once-great&nbsp;Duthatch&nbsp;city, settled near the forest, learned its history, laid its lingering souls to rest… and from those ashes, the rebuilt town became&nbsp;Emberville. Yeah, we didn’t plan to drop the origin story today, but here we are.

So what does Orallis do for you in-game? She’s your purveyor of delightful chaos:&nbsp;destructive potions, curses, witchcraft trinkets—the fun shelf behind the counter your mom told you not to touch.

We also polished up a&nbsp;beach scene&nbsp;that’ll host two key NPCs who unlock one of my favorite side-obsessions:&nbsp;fishing wild creatures inside the Vitromotus. Each biome has its own catch list—think weird, wonderful, and absolutely collectible.&nbsp;

Front and center here is&nbsp;Loen, your go-to tackle guru. Hooks, rods, baits—if it helps you catch it,&nbsp;Loen’s got it. Sell your catches to him, build rapport, and watch your kit level up so you can go after even bigger, stranger, “did that just try to bite me back?” creatures.

That’s the update: quick hit, dense drop. Art momentum, a witch with history, a town with ghosts finally resting, and a shoreline that’s basically a wish list for anglers who love fishing in games that probably shouldn’t have fishing (but definitely do now).&nbsp;

Who is responsible for emberville? - Devlog Quickfire

Every morning I wake up and wonder, is life really worth living? Then I remember DEVLOG QUICKFIRE! Then I usually knock back out! ANYWAYS! Welcome back, Embers! We've got a quick quickfire update today so let's just jump right in!



I'm excited about this house mostly because I'm a fish boy at heart. I love seeing how games do fish tanks and fish and this one is no exception. We've got 2 fish tanks already with a 3rd built into the wall here on the way.

	

There's also 2 "ponds" in the ground that you'll hopefully be able to use to actually fish. If not, maybe that's where Loen stores the wild fish you'll be trading from the Vitromotus.



A couple of devlogs ago, we showcased a beach scene and mentioned that that was a finalized beach scene concept. Well, guess what, baby? This is game development and none of that is ever true. Things are always changing except for when you ship a game, obviously. And I don't even think that's true. I'm sure that after we ship the game, there's going to be loads of changes, balances, and new content.


<br><br>&nbsp; As you can see, our team completely changed the layout on this island here. And personally, I like it better. I asked for a comment as to why exactly they decided to make these changes, and the answer was pretty simple. They just decided that this layout portrayed their vision for the game best and so they went along with those changes. And honestly, I have to agree. I'm really liking this new layout. Kudos.&nbsp; &nbsp;
